Zwei Brücken III: Post scriptum 

In the first two concerts of the cycle, works by brilliant Swiss composers will be performed, alongside pieces written by renowned composers from other countries during their stay in Switzerland.

The third and final part of the concert series will feature the impressive and monumental work “Quartet for the End of Time” by the French composer Olivier Messiaen, which encapsulates the entire cycle with the eternal essence of music—music that knows neither time nor borders.

The metaphorical name of the cycle, TWO BRIDGES, symbolizes the connection between two historical eras spanning from the 19th to the 21st century, and reflects the history of music as a continuous, unceasing process. Switzerland, whose musical culture vividly manifests this continuity, serves as the main stage for almost all the works in the program. The connection to historical epochs is underscored by the relevance of modern issues (for example, Stravinsky’s “The Soldier’s Tale” was written in Switzerland during quarantine at the outbreak of the Spanish flu).

The musicians participating in the program are prize-winners of international competitions and perform with the Vienna State Opera Orchestra, the Vienna Philharmonic, the Tonkünstler Orchestra of Lower Austria, as well as on several Viennese stages.
