Concert: Kitsch music
Program note:
Valentyn Silvestrov, born in Kyiv in 1937, is one of the finest composers of contemporary classical music. In the 1960s, he was one of the leading representatives of the “Kyiv Avant-garde”, but over time, starting in the 1970s, his style evolved into a new musical reality, which he poetically called “Metamusic” or “metaphorical music.”
When listening to the works of the younger generation of Ukrainian composers — Svyatoslav Lunyov, Victoria Vita Poleva, Maxim Shalygin — one cannot help but feel that they belong to the informal group “Kyiv Metamusic,” a group that exists not in the real world, but in the metaphysical one.
